What is a nurse psychotherapist?
A nurse psychotherapist is a nurse, registered to practice in the province of Ontario, who provides a client-nurse relationship that delves into the intense emotional areas of the human mind, assesses and analyzes the behavioural patterns that cause emotional, mental or physical harm to the client and initiates therapies that seek to improve mental health issues. The nurse psychotherapist does all of this using a nursing practice lens of body-mind-spirit and a trauma-informed approach to care (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2022; Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council, 2006, Nurse Psychotherapists of Ontario [Facebook group], 2022).
